TV Installation by Jaina Cipriano

A new version of You Get to Choose - this portrait, when watched closely, watches you back. An ultra-slowed down self portrait video played on a loop on a purple 2000's TV.

Are we trapped forever in the hearts that beat in our childhood bodies?

On view until April at Laconia Gallery, as part of The Empty Mirror.

Aspect Initiative Feature by Jaina Cipriano

Steven Duede runs a wonderful website featuring New England photographers and I am so honored to be included amongst the immense talent there.

β€œI first became acquainted with Jaina’s works a few years ago and was immediately drawn to the intensely personal nature of much of her works. The dynamic, visually striking, nearly assaultive composition of the works are jarring and thoughtful reflections on isolation, self-awareness and personal triumph. In her self-portraits often, at times with her most expressive face allows us to connect to her situational experiences. Theatrical, cinematic. At times uncomfortable yet humorous. Repulsive yet beautiful, Jaina’s work delivers complex imagery that can serve as a template in personal perception.”

The Phoblographer Feature by Jaina Cipriano

PHOTOGRAPHER JAINA CIPRIANO IS THE BEST THING SINCE GREGORY CREWDSON

β€œWhen we lay our eyes on her photographs, it all seems to come together. She chooses simplicity with her camera gear and instead works to get the shot through set building and all. What’s even more amazing, Jaina originally pitched us with the idea that she doesn’t use Photoshop as part of our long-standing No Photoshop series. Indeed, Jaina doesn’t use Photoshop but does minor Lightroom editing to add drama. She sometimes even builds the walls by hand. By all means, she isn’t killing it β€” whatever it is drops dead in front of her.”

COVID Artist History by Jaina Cipriano

Congratulations to Jerry Russo for this incredible feat - 249 artists experience during COVID recorded. Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

Here is the library.

And here is my segment!

β€œCipriano, a photographer and filmmaker, is used to being alone, to hibernating, and she likes keeping to herself. So when the COVID-19 lockdown started in New York it gave her permission to stay home, make art, and not deal with anything in the outside world. It was like being on an art residency in her own apartment.”

Butter Bench by Jaina Cipriano

Earlier this year I had the wonderful experience of building this super fun, custom butter bench for Johnny Cupcakes experiential store on Newbury Street in Boston, MA.

It’s there now! Go take a picture on it and tag me on social media!

This one was fun because I got to try out som new materials - from the stenciling, to automotive spray paint. Building something to last is different than building a set - and I enjoy the challenge!

Thrift Finds by Jaina Cipriano

Some of the best thrift finds of the year.

Some of them are for my growing design reference library, some for the studio, some for prop rental + storage.

Trauma Bond Wins! by Jaina Cipriano

Ryan Nunes hosted an incredible night of films about mental health - thank you for bringing so many of us together for such a great night. It’s funny there aren’t more film nights centered around mental health - that’s why we all do this, right?

Honored to have received an award for Trauma Bond - Short Film - Best Set and Costume Design (which I share with Adriane Moreno - for all her amazing costume + set dressing work on this short!)

Making films helps heal me. Maybe sharing them with the world, helps heal you too. I can only hope
