I took this photo in 2020 during the height of the COVID lockdown when my anxiety had me stretching truths as far as I could, feeling the end of the world in my bones.
For months I would drive around aimless every afternoon as the sun set and looked for places that called to me - somewhere that felt playful. Then I would dig some costumes and props out from the back of my truck and run to stand in the golden light and try to just be present.
Being present felt impossible for me at that time, in the day to day but in these moments, in these disguises, it was. In small doses, it was.
Photography is magic.
Excited to say this photo is now an official selection in International Photography Awards 2023 contest.
