Opening Reception for Dreamscapes by Jaina Cipriano

Join us in celebrating the opening of the exhibition "Dreamscapes: Finding the Light Through Immersive Design." In this exhibition, Boston-based artist and filmmaker Jaina Cipriano constructs emotive and enveloping experiences for viewers with her installations and photographs. Through illusionistic set designs - devoid of any digital manipulation - Cipriano’s work wrestles with themes of trauma, grief, and self-discovery.

Honest - Harvey Brittian by Jaina Cipriano

This spring I had the chance to art direct this music video for Harvey Brittian produced by Hop Top Films. It was a really great time on this set with a really incredible team. I had a blast making a party scene happen - and if you look closely on the right side of the screen at the night pool party you can see me being an extra (because the frame was empty and needed something to fill it - why not me, I guess?)

Working alongside DP Ben Heald was a dream - purposeful and visionary, it was great to build a set around his shots.

It got some press on Earmilk.

Shop Updates by Jaina Cipriano

I’ve been hard at work with my team getting the workshop into a workable space. We would love 10x the amount of space as this but sometimes you have to make do with what you have - and I think we’re doing a great job working out of this little space! It feels good to be in here now.

Dollhouse Fire for a Music Video by Jaina Cipriano

Our third and final day of filming for the new SUPERDOWN music video was a blast. We lit a dollhouse on fire and filmed it in slow motion. The dollhouse was a look-a-like for the house we filmed the band outside of. Directing this was a joy! Now, on to editing!

Infinite Mirage of Rapture at Midway Art Tunnel in Boston by Jaina Cipriano

so lovely to see my work and my name up on the walls of Midway Artist Studios new Tunnel Gallery. thank you to everyone who came to the opening last night - it was so lovely to see you all!

this was the first ever show in the brand new Tunnel Gallery - I cannot wait to see what they do with this lovely and intimate space.

The Infinite Mirage of Rapture is a story about finding safety without codependency and giving up the narrative of finding an external savior.

it is about finding myself in a world where all my life I was told men would save me if I just did what they told me to do - 25, in the deepest hole I’ve ever seen, staring up at the sun, I realized I’d had it all wrong. I had to save myself.

it is always surreal to see my work on the walls. what a blessing. what a dream.

Handmaid Art with Lowell TeleMedia Center by Jaina Cipriano

It was such a blast doing this fun interview with LTC!

“LTC presents Handmaid Art! An artists interview series geared to train interns and volunteers, research the art landscape in and around Lowell, and give artists a product they can use to promote themselves! This episode features film maker, set designer, and photographer Jaina Cipriano.”

"If I was worried about the outcome of every shoot, it would be devastating. Anytime anything didn't work out, I'd be at home in a dark room like "Is it worth it? What am I doing with my life?" But you have to not let those thoughts come in. You just have to work." -Jaina Cipriano

INWARD // OUTWARD - Leica Gallery Boston by Jaina Cipriano

It was such an honor to be asked by the amazing gallery manager, OJ Slaughter at Leica Gallery Boston to make new self portrait work for their INWARD // OUTWARD show - a part of Leica Women Foto Project.

Last month I was handed a beautiful Leica S2 and their 35mm f/2 lens and got to work.

These five self-portraits quickly became an exploration on the emotional toll of religion and purity culture on the female body - how it expects us to feel, what we are expected to give up in the world, the waiting, the demise, the isolation. It was freeing.

My work is hanging alongside Kris Nevaeh Tyler, Marika Belamarich and a mirror installation by Elle DioGuardi.

The reception sold out. If you can, go see the work. It is up until April 22.

GBAC's Platform for Artists + Issues in the Boston Art Scene by Jaina Cipriano

“There is also such an issue with attention on only high art in this city,” said Cipriano of Finding Bright Productions. “We have the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, ICA Boston, and institutions like these that create a sense of disconnect from the more independent scene. … There are all these wonderful, creative people, and it almost seems like there is nowhere to go to be fostered to create. You are just expected to figure it out. That middle ground is nonexistent.”
