Fountain Street Gallery Opening by Jaina Cipriano

A lovely night at Fountain Street gallery.

Sometimes, seeing the work on the walls helps me think differently about ways to show it. Tonight was one of those nights. Grateful for the ever evolving practice of art making and how it pushes me to grow.

Honored to show alongside Heather Binder + Kathryn Shagas.

Abstracted presentations of the emotional life and the use of a strong graphical presence come together in the work of September’s Annex artists Kathryn Shagas, Heather Binder, and Jaina Cipriano. Binder uses ceramics as a part of her spiritual practice. For Cipriano, photography in built environments communicates the complex emotions of her growing up. Shagas’ monoprints and mixed media are informed by music and her experiences of the natural world.”

Official Selection in International Photography Awards 2023 by Jaina Cipriano

I took this photo in 2020 during the height of the COVID lockdown when my anxiety had me stretching truths as far as I could, feeling the end of the world in my bones.

For months I would drive around aimless every afternoon as the sun set and looked for places that called to me - somewhere that felt playful. Then I would dig some costumes and props out from the back of my truck and run to stand in the golden light and try to just be present.

Being present felt impossible for me at that time, in the day to day but in these moments, in these disguises, it was. In small doses, it was.

Photography is magic.

Excited to say this photo is now an official selection in International Photography Awards 2023 contest.

Rattle: SUPERDOWN by Jaina Cipriano

Last summer I had a wonderful designing + directing this crazy video for SUPERDOWN - and it’s finally out now!

13Forest by Jaina Cipriano

This Saturday, July 20th I have three new works up at 13Forest Gallery in Arlington, MA. The show is called As Luck Would Have It. You can read the artist feature they put up on their website here and see the work.

“Luck and ritual play an unfortunate part in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - these photos explore playful motifs of luck mixed with the shame and isolation that comes from OCD rituals. OCD, for me, stems from the inability to let go of control. I often feel that nothing I do will ever be enough to save me - unless I do just the right things, in just the right order then I will not have to face whatever it is I am afraid of.

[You Get to Make the Choice is a] self portrait in a wall of stuffed animals - hidden amongst the carnival prizes that folks are trying to win. Bright, colorful with bold, dramatic lighting - reminiscent of childhood fears and wants.”

Hosting + Curtating GRRL HAUS by Jaina Cipriano

Back in May I had the honor of hosting and curating a night of local films for GRRL Haus at The Brattle in Harvard Square.

GRRL Haus attracts such an incredible community.

In 2019 I went to one of their nights for the first time and was empowered to make my own first short film, so it was an honor to host this magical night!

Cary Memorial Library by Jaina Cipriano

You can catch my work hanging at Cary Memorial Library in Lexington, MA until the end of summer.

This library was a safe space for me many times over the course of my teenage years. I’m so grateful for the space that library’s offer us. It is an honor to have my work on the walls of a place that means so much to me - and many others.

Set Design Workshop at LTC by Jaina Cipriano

“In this workshop, Jaina goes over the fundamentals of designing and building sets, as well as her on approach to filmmaking. Participants then created striking visual spaces with props and set pieces built and collected by Jaina.

The Mediamakers Festival is a month full of workshops that go over various aspects of mediamaking free to the public! Folks are then encouraged to submit video and audio shorts to the LTC team for a screening mid-October!”
